Rays Just Percentage Points Ahead of Sox

As you probably already know by now the Rays are tied for first in the AL East with the Red Sox but lead them by mere percentage points. The Rays are 88-60 (.595) and the Sox are 89-61 (.593). The Rays have played two less games than the Sox so they hold the key to their own destiny.

With 6 home games left (they have the best home record in the majors at 53-22) and two of them against the Red Sox they have a shot to add some breathing room. But then they go on the road (where they are 35-38) and end the season with 8 away games (4 against Baltimore and 4 against Detroit).

The Rays magic number to reach the playoffs is just 7 games.

Beyond the Boxscore has a great article up that has a complete breakdown of David Price’s MLB debut with pitch f/x and a nice comparison to Tim Lincecum.

Jayson Stark writes that the Bright season for the Rays is suddenly a bit gloomy

Outs Per Swing has a piece up about the Rays post All-Star break stats. Kinda surprising.

Her Rays has an article (and an incriminating picture) of the Rays rookie hazing.

You thought the picture was bad, here is a video of the hazing thanks to Bugs & Cranks. Someone needs to remind them that they took the Devil off almost a year ago.
