-USA starter Stephen Strasburg (Sand Diego State) pitched phenomenal game in the Olympics retiring the first 13 hitters and allowing one single and one walk while striking out 11 in 7 innings. He is certainly looking like a candidate for 1st overall pick in next year’s draft even with Scott Boras as his agent.

-The Arizona Diamondbacks may end up with 9 of the first 75 picks in next year’s draft. That is great news for them. They traded the farm for Dan Haren and they can restock the system with one draft.

-If you missed David Price’s Triple-A debut last night don’t worry, The Immaculate Inning has an incredibly detailed report of his outing. And I do mean incredibly detailed.

Aaron Crow, the Nationals top pick has signed with the Fort Worth Cats of the Independant League. Crow’s agent is quoted saying: “We wouldn’t have had him sign with the Cats if we thought he was going to sign with the Nationals,” Hendricks said. “The last I talked with Jim Bowden, he didn’t think there was anything more to talk about. I didn’t disagree.” Not good news at all. Another Jim Bowden mistake…

-The Rays are signing every draft pick it seems. They still have 2nd rounder Kyle Lobstein, who will sign for about $1M which is roughly 200K over slot, and once that is done the Rays will have signed 26 of their top 28 picks from this year’s draft.

Statcorner.com is a realll cool new website that has a ton of stats that are very useful and very in depth. You should check it out.

– The San Francisco Giants purchased the contract of 22 year old catcher/first baseman Pablo Sandoval today. Take a look at his stats here. They also called up others and made some roster moves. Sandoval looked like he could be the catcher of the future until this…

– The Giants are about to sign top pick Buster Posey to $7.5M major league deal.
They also signed top other top picks like 3rd rounder Roger Kieschnick (he got $525K, which is $40K over slot) and 4th rounder Brandon Crawford (for $375K which is $92K over). The Giants easily have a top 5 farm system and this year’s draft has been an A+ if it could be grades this early.

– The White Sox locked up its first round pick Gordon Beckham with a $2.6M bonus.

Mike Lowell has hit the DL and Kevin Youkilis is going back to thirdbase. Who is going to be at first? Sean Casey? Jeff Bailey?

– The Baltimore Orioles are close to signing top pick Brian Matusz.

– The Pittsburgh Pirates are still talking with top pick Pedro Alvarez.
