Our 2008 MLB Predictions & Awards

In our predictions here at 3Guys you will see a wide variety in choices in certain categories (NL R.O.Y., World Series Winner) and some categories that look almost the same across the board (AL East, AL MVP). You will see some predictions that make you say “That could happen” and some that will make you say “What was he thinking”. Here goes our 2008 MLB Predictions.

Interesting Picks gentlemen. I do think though with John Lackey out for the first Month it might swing the door open for Seattle to take the AL West.
I do think Prince Fielder will win the NL MVP. I find the Cecil Cooper choice for NL MOY to be an interesting one. I think choosing Baldelli as Comeback is a bit premature… as well as Chavez… but I like the spirit behind those picks.

Is Youkilis going to pull the Bukner in this prediction? Haha! We have a couple of the same picks. I almost went with Rasmus but he won’t start the season in and I think it will go to Soto in Chicago.
Also, some of these picks were made 2-3 weeks ago, my pick for the Brewers was made before the 2006 season started, just like my pick of the Rays to win in 2010 was made before the 2007 season.

I think Juan Gonzalez is a great story and he was out of baseball completely last year. I like to see the Julio Franco stories… it is kind of a feel good story.

I picked the padres to win the NL West. as for the Yankees… Yes they have a talented offense. But they have too many questions regarding their pitching. After Wang… Petite has his back issues, Mussina which Mussina will show up, joba is sent to the pen, Mariano has proven to be hittable early on. I think the pitching staff under new manager will be tested. Joe Girardi can win with young people that nothing is expected. But now that he is in Yankee Land (EVIL EMPIRE) how will his managing be effected? Hank and Hal are incompetent owners and the team will not be the juggernaut it was in the late 90’s.

Thanks Jay. I love these types of comments. They make me laugh. We’ll just have to wait and see there Jay. If you want weak predictions go over to SI or ESPN. By the way Jay, the Rays will win in 2010. I must be on crack!

Once again no offence but I think ESPN,SI,Sporting News,Street and Smith, ETC. Know more then you. Anyone can have a website. You are saying the Rays will win it all in 2010 yet since their inception into the league they have never finished over 500 yet. You guys think you know a lot about sports but your myspace says you are aspiring sports reporters. If you were so good you would already have a job in the sports industry. Once again Don’t quit your day job whatever that may be. It is time to come down to reality and realize you are not very good at being a “sports Reporter/Writer.

They may know a little more (that’s up for debate) but that doesn’t mean they make correct predictions. They also make the same, biased predictions year in and year out. True, anyone can have a website and well, we do! The reason we may not have jobs “in the industry” is because some of us are still on school and do have day jobs. And so you know, we do have a writer in the industry and that is his “day job”. Again, we’ll have to wait and see. You sound like you have a bias towards a team and you’re upset we didn’t pick them. Sorry if we upset you but we do this because we love it and we are pretty good at it, contrary to what you think. Again, we value your input and we will use it to make us even better.

Well you are right one thing SI,ESPN,Sporting News,Street and Smith are not always right on their predictions. That is why they call it a Prediction because it is a educated guess. Just like predicting the weather the National Weather Service makes an educated guess. Odds are more then likely and not debatable that if someone is working for one of the aformentionable publications they are an educated insider of sports. You are going far out on a limb by saying the Brewers will win the World Series. Just about every publication I have read has the Cubs as the NL Team in the World Series. And no I really Do Not have a Bias for any team. Just remember once the Brewers Do Not make the playoffs you will be the one who looks like a fool. Not Me and not any of the experts of the industry. Also I leave you with two baseball trivia questions since you think you know everything about the sport and be honest in your answer. Who was the first black player to play in the Major Leagues and what team did he play for? And Who was the first black manager in the majors?

I think what is missing is that these gentlemen have a deep passion for sports. Yes, they may have out of this world predictions… But who could have called the Rockies last year? Who called Jim Valvano’s Wolfpack, or Villanova’s upset victory over Georgetown? NOBODY DID. The wonderful thing about Sports and this website is that it allows these guys to have a forum and perfect their craft. Everyone has to start somewhere but the one thing you can’t deny with these guys is that they love sports. And it allows you the forum to speak your mind as well whether you agree with their articles or not. There was no claim of sports experts. These guys are first and foremost FANS, as are you. And I for one think these guys are doing a fine job and give me an avenue to debate right along with them.
As for the Brewers, they are not a bad team. They expect better things from their rotation that was hit hard with injuries. They have a CFer now in Cameron, a full season of Braun in a position hopefully that he won’t be a stone hands. They have a decent bullpen and could surprise the Cubs. It is possible. Will they win it all probably not. It takes balls to make predictions different from other people. And it wasn’t like he predicted the Rays to win it all this year! or the Royals…
In regards to your trivia- The first black player in baseball was Bud Fowler he played for Lynn A ball in 1878, But the first Black Player in the major leagues was Jackie Robinson his first contract was with the Montreal Royals but he played for the Brooklyn Dodgers. and Frank Robinson was the first black manager in the Majors.
Now my question for you: Who was the first black pitcher to throw a no-hitter?

Wrong on both son Moses Fleetwood Walker was the first black player to play in the Majors playing for Toledo of the American Assoication which was a Major League in 1884. The first Black Manager was Ernie Banks managing the Cubs for one game in 1973 on May 8th thus techinically making him the First African American to Manage a Major League Baseball Game. You say this website lets them perfect their craft. But many people dont come here and some of the ones who do don’t listen and buy their banter. You say they are fans which any sports writer/reporter is but they let their bias come into play way to much in their articles which lessens their credibility.

Well going by your website you will see Fleetwalker was the first black to play in the major leagues. Baseball almanac will not list one game as being the first manager since he did not have the offical title but Ernie Banks was the first black to manage a baseball game. The answer to your question is Sam Jones. Taken directly from that website 05-01-1884 Moses Fleetwood Walker is the first black major league player and he goes 0-3 with Toledo of the American Association. Just because you are some punk teenager trying to show up an adult is commical. do a google search on Ernie Banks manager and you will see he managed a game prior to Frank Robinson becoming a manager thus by technicality becoming the first black manager.

Ok Jay, you are in fact technically correct about the Manager. But the semantics of your questions indicate that my answers are in fact correct. American Association is Major League, but Professional ball could also be taken as Major League. Ernie Banks was a coach during that time in 1973 and didn’t hold the title of Manager. But for that one day that Lockman was ejected. So I’ll give you your esteem as a wealth of useless baseball knowledge. Feel free to take this “PUNK Teenager” to school anytime. I would love for you to set me straight.
