The Detroit Tigers and center fielder Curtis Granderson agreed to a five year, $30.25 million contract, sources told ESPN The Magazine’s Buster Olney. The Tigers have a club option for the 2013 season.

The contract covers Granderson’s arbitration-eligible seasons and buys out one season of free agency.

Last season, the 26-year-old Granderson joined Jimmy Rollins, Willie Mays and Frank “Wildfire” Schulte as the only players in major league history with 20 stolen bases, 20 homers, 20 triples and 20 doubles in a single season.

I think the deal makes sense for the Tigers. They have a potential superstar on their hands. Depending on what the salary is over the next five seasons, it could be a really good deal. They’re only looking at $6 million average over those years, so it can’t be half bad!

I agree. He will be 31 when the deal expires and the deal covers practically his entire prime as a CFer. Great deal for Detroit.
